Landolls Mohican Castle
Profile
Landolls Mohican Castle is an elaborate and luxurious castle built-in 1999 by Jim Landoll and his wife Marta Landoll. After a two-year tour in Europe, Jim fell in love with the idea of owning a castle of his own and vowed that if he ever made enough money, one day he and his wife would build a castle in America.
Mohican Castle’s unique layout is attributed to a “build as you go” mentality. Originally it was meant to be designed as an elaborate barn, and it pivoted off into a much larger project. With rooms and additions being built without a blueprint, Jim and Marta designed everything as construction went on. Eventually, Marta convinced Jim to open the castle up as a hotel, wanting to “share this dream with the world”.
So what makes it haunted? To start, Heyd Cemetery is directly settled on the property, right next to the main castle. Many of the land earliest settlers were buried here long before the castle was built. It goes back as far as the 1830s. There are various spirits wandering the grounds, from a small girl in a blue dress to a large imposing shadow figure known as “Chief”. Photos of the little girl have been captured and posted on the Mohican Castle website where you can view them and determine their authenticity for yourself.
There is also the original cottage from the 1830s still standing on the property, which you can rent out for the night. It is believed the former owner still haunts it, and investigators have reported apparitions, footsteps, voices, and loud knocks and bangs while staying in the cottage.
The spirits are a mix of good and bad. Most of them seem to observe from a distance, almost never making themselves known. But there are a few darker, angrier entities here that will occasionally make themselves known.
You can book a paranormal investigation on their website and rent the cottage as well, for a separate fee.
